RURAL DEVELOPMENT SUPPORT INITIATIVES

Existing Opportunities in Rural Development

A model has been developed by SAZM Trading and Projects (Pty) Ltd whereby it clearly specifies that lack of employment opportunities and poverty alleviation in rural communities can be partly alleviated by:

1. Allocating small pieces of land of between 4 to 5 ha to each willing family and be put into use under suitable combinations of crops

2. Clustering the small pieces of land into land suitability clusters on the basis of optimum crop productivity capability

3. Putting all small land farm owners into a well structured Incubation Programme

4. Sourcing Start-up Funding for only the first year of production

5. Implementing a youth training and mentorship programme so that the graduates of this programme provide continuous support to the small land farm owners

6. Source Funding for the machinery to service the needs of each cluster of small farms to be centrally managed

7. Develop a full cycle of production, processing and marketing for all produce from the farms
